2000 Yamaha SR 250 Bobber Bike From Scratch

Background of The Builder

Fifty-year-old Sławek Wołoszczuk from Szczecin has everything. He hooked up with motorcycles since he was a child, and his passion in automotive field was taken over by his genes. His dad even worked in the Junak factory for some time. Sławek's motorcycle career was quite typical for a representative of his generation.

First there was the moped stage, then it changed to JAWA and Emzetka, then there was the Japanese stage in the motorcycle biography. However, Sławek is most fond of old motorbikes that do not have electronics and can be repaired by themselves using simple tools. His achievements include a few restored old "Japanese", both sports and off-road.

Broken Yamaha SR250

For several years, Sławek has started to "customize". This cute little bobber we present is his third project. The machine was made of a damaged Yamaha SR 250 from 2000 (it was the last year of production of this model) and parts that he found from his own garage. He made the frame himself from seamless steel pipes. Only the head with the tubes that connect to the headstock remain from the original Yamaha frame. The custom design starts roughly 30 cm back and down from the headstock. The screws used to tension the chain are from the speedway motorcycle.

The clutch handle was also borrowed from the speedway Java. The front brake handle remained original. The wheels and axles are also the SR 250, but an older model, because Sławek wanted the bike to look old, so drum brakes were needed. Fortunately, the bike is light and not very fast, so these classic brakes somehow manage. The Springer fork is also a proprietary design. The lamps were bought on Allegro and properly aged. The only modern element in this motorcycle are the small LED turn signals. The original vacuum carburetor was replaced with a mechanical Mikuni.

The air filter is also hand made. The rear fender was made by modifying an old fender lying in the garage, but it was so much of a hassle that, as Sławek claims, it would be easier to hammer it out of the sheet metal from scratch. The sets of footrests and cables for the brake and gear shifting are also handcrafted, as well as most of the construction elements of this bobber. The fuel tank is from a 1954 Simson, and the fuel tap used to work on an equally old Triumph motorcycle. The horn is American, and it was produced in the 1960s. yamaha sr250 scrambler price cafe racer sr 250 for sale sr500

The hardness of the fork springs was matched to the feel that, as practice shows, Sławek did not disappoint, because the fork is very efficient at selecting unevenness. There are also plans to install a hydraulic shock absorber. The leather-trimmed saddle is also a handiwork. The saddle springs were also well chosen. With an under-inflated rear tire, the motorcycle provides quite tolerable comfort despite its stiff frame.

Yamaha SR250 Bobber

Bobber serves Sławek on a daily basis and fulfills his role very well. The engine has 20 HP, which, given the low weight of the machine, is enough for smooth driving around the city and short trips to the green.

It took six months to build the bobber, and the driving satisfaction and the "unusually high head reversibility factor" are invaluable. As you can see, you don't need a global industry and a suitcase of money to create an exciting machine. You "only" need to have a creative mind and skilled hands.
