1972 Yamaha RZ201

1972 Yamaha RZ201 CCR

Yamaha is a latecomer in the industry, introduced the RZ201 at the 1972 Tokyo Motor Show. Prior to this, the two businesses had formed a technological cooperation with Yanmar, the first company in Japan to obtain a license.

It is easy to obtain high output with little vibration and noise. In addition, the rotation range is wide and the torque is flat... Four domestic motorcycle manufacturers have developed motorcycles equipped with rotary engines, but Suzuki is the only Japanese bike that has actually been mass-produced.

The image is the "Rotary RZ201" that Yamaha exhibited at the 1972 Tokyo Motor Show. Like the TX, it has a calm (smelling) atmosphere, but the name "RZ", which was later given to the "last 2-stroke", has already been used, and I can feel the spirit. Also, there is a dedicated logo with a tuning fork mark on the rotor in the left image, so maybe it was quite serious?

So, when you look at it now, it smells unpopular, but just adding the word "phantom" makes it look attractive! ? Water-cooled 2 rotors, maximum output 68ps, maximum speed 220km/h. What kind of machine did you do?

The Wankel engine was supposed to be lightweight and compact, but it ended up weighing 220 kilograms and having a water-cooled 2-rotor 660cc displacement that produced 60 horsepower at 6,000 revolutions per minute. At the 1971 Motor Show, Yamaha had a reference exhibit consisting of a GL750 that had a 2-cycle water-cooled 4-cylinder 750cc engine. As a side note, this was the year before the 1971 Motor Show.

1977 Yamaha RZ01 Specification

Yamaha RZ201 CCR also featured a range of advanced technologies to enhance its performance on the track.

This included a lightweight aluminum frame that was designed to provide superior handling and stability, as well as a front suspension system that was adjustable to accommodate a variety of riding styles and track conditions.
