Yamaha Stratoliner 1900 Review

The all-new Roadliner was recently introduced to the US motorcycle market and is going through an era of significant change for the tuning fork manufacturer. Yamaha has brought its entire line of cruiser motorcycles under the new Star banner, and at the forefront of that exciting range for 2006 is the Stratoliner. In fact, Yamaha Stratoliner 1900 an accessory-equipped roadliner that appears in dealers' showrooms as a complete model with detachable windshield, backrest and hard leather bags.

Yamaha Stratoliner 1900 Concept and transformation

Looking after the largest air-cooled two-cylinder V engine in production, I returned from the original launch of the roadliner, which was very impressed with the enormous torque and power levels available to Stratolins.

The muscular V-two cylinder produces its maximum torque from 114 lb-pi to just over 2000 rpm and continues to scream these numbers until the engine rises to 4000 rpm. This results in a remarkable overtaking performance at 60 m/h at higher speed, the type of power that does not fall until it has exceeded the three-digit mark.

Designed for the adult end of the Star gene pool, stratolins are designed for cyclists with long-distance comfort in mind, and you can remove the windshield and backrest for all the laying options you've ever had in the city. It's not a new concept, Yamaha and Harley Davidson already offer this feature on some models, but it's certainly a practical concept that will be very popular with the new owners.

Yamaha Stratoliner 1900 Engine and gearbox

The stratoliner's massive pistons, which deliver powerful 190 cuts, provide an impressive buzz thanks to the two-in-one exhaust system. With the transfer of a healthy power of 91 hp to the ground, it is one of the most powerful thrusters manufactured, and only an absolute jewel.

By controlling two different personalities, both of which are equally present, you can control Stratoliner in two ways. In complete cruise mode, the planned mission of the bike, the large 100 mm pistons rise and sink in 118 mm drilling with very little vibration. At the height of the steering wheel, the light accelerator throttle barely came out of contact.

Turn the gases full, however, and Stratoliner begins with a serious authority that is certainly in the same league, in terms of performance, as the great Vulcan 2000 of Kawasaki.

Designed by a 9.5:1 compression rate high for an air-cooled V-to-cylinder of this size, presented a number of challenges to keep your head cool for Yamaha engineers.

To facilitate this, the pistons are sprayed with oil, and the heads have an oil cooling system that crosses the area of the socket. The cylinders use four valves per cylinder with large inputs of 36 mm, which take the fuel into the hollow cylinders and 31 mm of exhaust, allowing the combustion gases to escape into the exhaust.

The elegant two-in-one system has an incredibly deep and strong sound for a standard system. Like no other on a cruiser, it has an EXUP (Exhaust Ultimate Power Valve) only found on Yamaha Sport motorcycles. It is a cable strength valve that opens and closes with the accelerator pedal, which creates more counter-pressure at low speeds for increased torque, while the engine can produce more peak power when the accelerator is fully open. When injecting fuel into the cylinders, Stratoliner uses two 43 mm butterfly carcasses, which are now equipped with 12-hole injectors for a more precise and wider spraying of the fuel.

They are themselves adjustable for height and have a fast slow motion programmed for cold start. Stratolins provide perfect refuelling, regardless of the position of the accelerator pedal, and have a flawless power supply from any position of the accelerator, anywhere in the dining room.

Yamaha Stratoliner 1900 Chassis and brakes

One of the most dynamic elements of the Stratoliner is the aluminium frame. Weighing just 37 pounds, which is 25 pounds lighter than the Road Star, it's made from just eight parts compared to 64 for the Road Star. Ensures greater stiffness, it also gives the bike a much lower centre of gravity and allows for a cleaner style.

This is immediately noticeable as soon as you sit on the bike, collect it on the side stand and plant both feet firmly on the ground. The Stratoliner, which disguises its weight very well, just doesn't feel like a big cruiser.

On the back of the new frame, an equally light rocking arm is first connected to Yamaha sports wheel technology on a cruiser. Shaped using the controlled aluminum padding, it weighs within a super-light 11.8 pounds - a full 14 pounds lighter than the steel unit found on the Road Star.

Not only does it have a lighter weight and more power, it has also given designers more agency in the style department, as it consists of only five components. Not bad, considering that the Road Star has 23.

The frame rolls on 12 cast aluminum wheels and 12 spokes, which not only look good, but also in my head contribute to the main positive personality trait of the Stratoliner. The two wheels, a 17-inch rear and an 18-inch front, are packed into low-profile Dunlop D251 tires that look more comfortable on a sports bike than a cruiser.

Steers in the face of fashion to block the largest, larger piece of rubber under the rear wing, the Stratoliner is blessed with the most positive direction and handling on every large cruiser I've ever mounted. On the back is the band of a reasonable size 190/60 - 17 inches, with a 130/70 - 18-incher front.

This allows the motorcycle to tilt in the corners so easily that it takes little more than a push on the wide beams to bend the bike and hold its line without adjustment.

The bike also comes with a brand new braking system. The large cruisers usually suffer from a lack of bite and feel to the brake lever, and although they have definitely improved, they are far behind the sports bikes for sensitivity and performance. Not anymore! The Stratoliner is equipped with the most powerful pre-brake configuration, which is not only blessed with a great lever feel, but with a strong, smooth, progressive effect that can be easily executed with just two fingers.

With two single-block brackets with 4 pistons and 298mm floating discs in front, this system would not be in place on a fast sports touring bike. Complemented by a single double piston handle that grips on the 320 mm rear window, the motorcycle company's capabilities in the Cruiser category are incomparable.

Yamaha Stratoliner 1900 Accessories and packages

The new Stratoliner is available on three different platforms: the basic model comes with the forks, the back seat, the manual operation and the various painted and polished engine ceilings; In the Midnight version, these parts are all shiny black; and for the tip of the line "S" chromium is the coating of choice.

Each of the models is equipped with the detachable windscreen, backrest and saddle bags, and all are lockable with the ignition key. The pockets have the simplest opening mechanism in the motorcycle, and if you want to remove them, there are three rotation brackets to hold them in place. The holders they keep would take longer to remove, but for cleaning purposes, or getting your luggage to a hotel room, they might not be more comfortable.

The large windshield is much developed to eliminate the buffet, and after a long day in the saddle I am a believer. Although I was only 6 feet safe, sitting straight allowed me to see clearly on top of the windshield. It was also possible to keep my visor open as the wind only hit the top of my helmet.

Behind bars, things are remarkably quiet that you're sitting in a relatively quiet airbag with your arms and hands the only one in front in the wind. Another thing that is immediately noticeable with the windscreen in place is the extra sound of the engine of the 1854cc höcke. Not uncomfortably in any way, it complements this relaxing cruiser experience that rolls the scenery through.
