1980 Yamaha XJ400 Specification
In the 1970s and 1980s, many domestic 400mm models were developed mainly for export 500-600mm models, but Yamaha's XJ400 was focused on the domestic market. It was planned based on a survey of the consciousness of young people under the age of 20 in the country, which is the center of users. This was aimed at satisfying the ownership of young people who could not ride Nanahan due to licensing and economic circumstances.
The XJ400, which was made in advance, was given a similar design to the XJ650, but it was basically a gorgeous specification with a completely new design, including a new cast type wheel. The wheelbase is 1405mm, which is longer than the standard of Yamaha at the time, according to the planning concept of large styling.
The completely new air-cooled 4-stroke 4-cylinder DOHC 2-valve engine features an ACG located on the back of the cylinder. As a result, the overall width of the engine is 446 mm, the same as the 2-cylinder Yamaha GX400. A rubber mount is used for the engine suspension system of the front two axles and the rear one axle of the crankcase. It aims to reduce the unpleasant engine vibration transmitted to the rider through the frame.
