Yamaha SR400, Always Be The Same

Yamaha SR400, Always Be The Same

SR400 and SR500 were born as new road sports based on Yamaha off-road model "XT500". The Yamaha SR400 is equipped with a double seat with a seat cowl that is inherited by the current bike, but the SR500 was equipped with a thick double seat for adult riders without a seat cowl. The overall silhouette is a standard that makes you feel like a “motorcycle” or “single seat”, and is well inherited by current SR.

An early-type catalog with a sense even now that I can't believe 38 years ago. SR that pushed out the classic atmosphere to the full, but two years later, the same Yamaha, the RZ250 / 350, which is said to be the forerunner of the racer replica boom, etc. Will struggle with sales.

The current Bike has a part to continue SR to be represented by injection, but there are many other details in detail as you look at the successive models. A typical early model is a 19-inch F-wheel with a disc brake. Unlike the current model and the older model, the fuel tank has a slim design that is now called the “narrow tank”. The intake was a carburetor, and a forced opening / closing type VM was adopted in the initial stage.

1970s Yamaha SR400 casting wheel

SR made the first model change the year after the initial model was released.
Adopted cast wheels that were generally installed on sports models at the time . The name was changed to SR400SP. Although it is currently a cast wheel that is supported by the SR ride, it was not popular at the time of release, and as a result it was a rare bike in the secondhand market.

2010 Yamaha SR400

Although the production was discontinued once in 2008, the current SR was revived in 2010 using fuel injection.
