1983 YAMAHA RZ250R SPECIFICATIONS

The RZ250, which was the forerunner of the two strikes, was rapidly gaining excitement in Japan, and it happened almost at the same time as the RZ appearance. Four manufacturers entered a fierce sales competition and development competition. Competitors such as Honda VT250F, which became the rival of RZ250 in spite of four strikes, will appear. To counter these, the RZ250 has been remodeled to the successor model, the RZ250R, although only three years have passed since its debut.

The engine inherited the basic layout and bore stroke from the RZ250, but a major change was the adoption of the YPVS exhaust device fed back from the commercial racer TZ. By changing the exhaust timing of the port according to the engine speed, the maximum output is increased to 43PS and flexibility is also achieved.

The frame also has a newly designed TZ-style double cradle type, and the rear monochrome suspension is upgraded to a link type. In addition, the front brakes are double discs and the rear brakes are also discs. A bikini cowl was standard equipment, and the style was renewed in a more lacy style.

However, at the same time as the appearance of RZ250R, Suzuki RG250Γ equipped with the first aluminum frame on the market, full cowl debuted, and the era will move toward the era of full-scale racer replica pursuing higher performance closer to racer .

Although the RZ250R has been struggling in sales races as well as production races that have flourished in Japan, it continues to sell with repeated model changes such as 45 PS against the competitors of racer replicas that appear one after another . In 1986, it was thought that the appearance of Yamaha's first two-stroke 250 replica, the TZR250, would disappear.

However, due to its high degree of perfection, it has continued to be sold as a reasonable basic model for 2-stroke sports after improvements such as tank changes and seat rail changes. In 1988, it was a long-selling model that was sold until 1992 after the appearance of R1-Z, while refreshing the foot circumference such as 17-inch front and rear wheels.
